A great tradition in the Olympic games is the passing on of the torch, from the ancient site of Olympia in Greece, to the place where the games will take place. Many torches will be carried by many athletes along the way, but the flame is always one. The flame which was initiated in Olympia is the same one that will light up the Olympic games at the end of the route.

Does it matters? Yes, because the fire is always to be seen as a symbol of Unity and Purification. During the games, in ancient Greece, a truce was proclaimed and all citizens were able to travel safely to the games. It was a “sacred truce”, far from political considerations of any kind.

There is need to renew this “Olympic Spirit” on a wider scale, and not only inside or around the stadium. The flame is the light of consciousness and it has to be passed from human being to human being, so that the whole of humanity as one, all people and nations together, could share the same consciousness: Unity instead of separation, consciousness instead of ignorance, and light instead of darkness.
